During December 2010, I set-up my first exhibition in a local charity shop called 'MAD', which stood for Music, Arts, and Dance. The private view took place on the 3rd of December, and the work was on display for two weeks after this event.

Unfortunately the charity shop got set on fire the night before my private view, and my exhibition nearly did not take place. However, in the end, I decided to go ahead with the private view, which turned out to be a great success, with many members of the public attending.

The room I exhibited my work in was very small, but I was able to do what I liked with it, hence the mud on the wall. I have always wanted to try out painting directly on the wall, and I thought that this exhibition was the right time to experiment with this process.

In my current work, I am interested in the bringing the outside world into the internal space of my studio, and reworking it into abstract paintings. I am also responding to nature, as well as working with it to create organic outcomes, whilst at the same time, using time as a material.

I learnt many things from painting directly on the wall, but the most important, and exciting aspect to the exhibition piece, in my opinion, was how the mud dripped to the floor, and produced almost vein-like forms. One person who attended my exhibition suggested that it looked like a landscape. Then another person commented that the painting looked like it was merging form the floor and moving up the wall. This was exciting! At this point, I realised that the floor, as well as the wall, needs consideration in my work.

I would just like to thank the Elysium Gallery, located on Craddock street, in Swansea, Wales. Particularly, gallery director, Johnathan Powell,  and the MAD shop group (unfornately no longer with us), for their help and support with my first exhibition, Natural Traces .
